SEOMYSITE.org is dedicated to providing useful information about Search Engine Optimization.  The primary focus of SEOMYSITE.org is to translate the Internet-ease and technical jargon of SEO into information that is easy for virtually anyone to understand and implement.  While the information here is valuable to anyone interested in learning how to optimize a website, our focus is on helping small and medium sized business owners better understand and take advantage of the power of Internet Marketing - with regard specifically to improving a site's performance in the natural or organic search results in Google, Yahoo!, MSN and any of a number of other search engines. 

The key to SEO for small businesses is to start with the basics.  Optimizing a website is a process.  As with any other process, step 1 must be completed before moving on to step 2, step 2 before step 3 and so on.  First, it is important to understand that SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is broken down into two primary categories:  On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO.  This site has sections dedicated to each category to help you understand each aspect separately.  In order to be successful in a natural or organic search, a website must incorporate both On-Page and Off-Page SEO techniques.  That said, On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO efforts can (and SHOULD) take place simultaneously.  Building external links, also referred to as building link popularity, (the primary focus of Off-Page SEO) should begin immediately - even if the site is not "complete" and additional On-Page SEO work needs to be done.
